The Opportunity 

In this role, you will support the Firebird Music investment team with research, analytics, and deal execution. You will report to the VP, Head of Business Development and work on acquisitions, investments, and strategic partnerships in various sectors of the music industry. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Build and refine financial models (forecasts, transaction models, budgets) in the process of evaluating investments, acquisitions, JVs, and other strategic initiatives including optimizing portfolio company performance 
  • Underwrite and analyze artist management, recorded music, and publishing investment opportunities 
  • Provide quantitative underwriting support for Firebird’s portfolio companies, in addition to support in the negotiation process with artists and writers 
  • Support due diligence work streams (i.e., business, financial, accounting, tax, legal DD) 
  • Gather and synthesize market intelligence to identify potential acquisitions and growth opportunities 
  • Develop competitive analysis of macro and micro trends impacting the music industry 
  • Break down complex financial problems into key factors and present findings to stakeholders 
  • Create insightful presentations summarizing data and financial analysis for senior management 

Skills You’ll Need 

  • 1-3 years full-time work experience in a highly quantitative role 
  • Priority will be given to candidates with experience in investment banking/private equity and/or music industry corporate development/finance or business affairs 
  • Passion for and knowledge of music, entertainment, and technology business models, along with industry trends 
  • Quantitative precision and attention to detail; ability to produce complex analytical work with minimal supervision 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate with both business and creative people 
  • Outstanding communication skills; ability to communicate and interact with C-Level executives 
  • Highly self-motivated and proactive by nature with strong presentation skills

About the Role:
We’re looking for an exceptional Corporate Controller to lead and scale the accounting operations of a rapidly growing, multi-entity organization. This is a high-impact leadership role ideal for someone with a strong foundation in investment accounting, a sharp strategic mind, and a passion for building efficient, high-integrity finance functions.

As Corporate Controller, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all core accounting functions, driving a disciplined close process, and ensuring compliance across complex business verticals. You’ll bring structure, insight, and leadership to a fast-paced environment—empowering teams, improving processes, and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting that supports our financial planning and analysis team and key business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations & Reporting

  •       Lead all accounting functions including general ledger, billing, AP/AR, inventory, revenue recognition, and cost accounting
  •       Own the preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements and regulatory filings
  •       Establish and maintain strong internal controls to protect assets and ensure reporting accuracy

Investment Accounting

  •       Manage accounting for equity investments and business combinations, ensuring accurate valuation, treatment, and disclosure
  •       Partner with investment teams to understand deal structures and translate them into financial reporting
  •       Assist with accounting due diligence in M&A
  •       Oversee technical accounting and valuation of equity-based incentive programs

Close, Intercompany and Audit Processes

  •       Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, driving speed, accuracy, and scalability
    Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, allocations, and transfer pricing compliance
  •       Continuously improve accounting workflows and reporting systems
  •       Manage the annual audit process

Budgeting & Forecasting

  •       Support the financial planning & analysis team’s development of budgets and forecasts; assist with analyzing variances and providing strategic insights
  •       Collaborate cross-functionally to align financial planning with business strategy

Compliance & Risk Management

  •       Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local financial regulations and tax requirements
  •       Conduct internal audits and risk assessments; implement corrective actions as needed

Team Leadership & Development

  •       Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing accounting team
  •       Foster a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement
  •       Partner with leadership across departments to support company-wide objectives

What We’re Looking For

  •       CPA required
  •       Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  •       3+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role at a publicly traded company as well as 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance
  •       Deep experience in investment accounting and multi-entity consolidations
  •       Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  •       Proven ability to lead a fast-paced close process and improve systems and controls
  •       Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
  •       Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Firebird’s International department oversees the global business outside of the US market.  The  VP, International Marketing’s primary role is to create, implement, and oversee marketing and commercial strategies as well as the operations necessary for highly successful campaigns and metrics-based results.  

On behalf of Firebird Label Services, the VP, International Marketing shall act as the central communications hub between the following:  

  • Firebird’s in-house teams 
  • Firebird’s owned and distributed labels, JV’s, and management company partners
  • Firebird Label Services’ network of third-party distribution partners
  • Third-party agencies and consultants
  • International streaming and sales accounts

In addition to devising and executing new release and catalog strategies around the world (ex-US), this role will:

  • Assemble the appropriate team in each focus territory per project 
  • Circulate the plans, strategies, assets, and data necessary for executing successful global releases
  • Spur and support the efforts of associated commercial and distribution teams
  • Enable the flow of communication and information amongst relevant parties

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Grow recorded music revenue streams for Firebird Label Services’ associated artists, managers, and independent label partners 
  • Strategize with Firebird partners to meet their international marketing needs and guide them in evaluating market opportunities for each priority artist across consumption formats
  • Collaborate with internal team members and Firebird partners to develop comprehensive global release marketing and/or artist development strategies, deliverables, road-maps, and timelines 
  • Participate in partner calls and meetings to advise on strategy and exchange information
  • Work with VP, Commercial in overseeing Firebird’s global distribution efforts ex-US, and manage relationships with third party distributors and delivery platforms
  • Coordinate with relevant partners to create stellar DSP pitches that ensure the best possible positioning, product optimization, and release visibility
  • Share DSP pitches with Firebird’s label services team as well as distribution, artist, and label partners
  • Develop and nurture advantageous relationships with all physical and digital accounts ex-US
  • Ensure that accounts are aware of Firebird priority releases through regular communication and music presentations, and develop strong relationships across multiple departments within each account (including content/editorial, product marketing, sponsorship, operations, reporting, C-suite, and related 3rd party service providers)
  • Assemble teams consisting of the right third party marketing, digital, press, and pluggers per project in focus territories, and oversee their ongoing release marketing efforts by providing campaign objectives, feedback, and updates
  • Provide a weekly status report including a release schedule, detailed information on release efforts, artist campaigns, current chart standings, streaming/sales stats, tour info, and general highlights to our internal team, artists, managers, and label partners
  • Determine and track key performance indicators and create campaign recaps which include plans, timelines, key marketing/promotion drivers, analytics, best practices, highlights, results, and key learnings
  • Generate retail financial forecasting reports for the international markets
  • Optimize operations, reporting, technology, and business functions to ensure efficiency

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of international marketing experience within the music industry
  • Proven track record of sales and revenue growth
  • A strong understanding of recorded music distribution, sales, and streaming, new release production, delivery, and technology 
  • Able to take broad campaign concepts and translate them into partner-specific initiatives that result in sales/streams and impressions

This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to support attorneys in complex entertainment transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and redline music industry agreements, including:
    • Recording, publishing, and licensing contracts
    • Artist, producer, and songwriter agreements
    • Synchronization and mechanical licensing deals
    • Live performance, touring, and brand sponsorship agreements
    • Digital distribution and streaming platform agreements
  • Assist attorneys in contract negotiations and deal execution.
  • Manage music rights clearances and ensure compliance with copyright and intellectual property laws.
